BioKube sizing information
The main question we always get asked is what size of package
treatment system do we need.
Well! It is not always that easy. There are various
methods of determining the size of BioKube system that you will require.
This will depend on whether the property is totally domestic or has some
other use.
Here at Biokube we use the British
Water Code of Practice:- "Flows & Loads - 2"
This will give you two figures for your situation.
- The total flow in litres that a system installed at your
property will be required to handle.
- The Biological loading (BOD) in kgs that the system will have to
digest.
Once you know this you are half way to sizing the system for your
situation. The last thing that you need is the allowable discharge
consent levels. These figures will come from the
"Discharge Consent" granted by
either SEPA in Scotland or the Environmental Agency in England and
Wales.
With the Flow & Load and the discharge consent levels we can let you
know what system is right for your situation.
You will often see tank sizes quoted as "x PE" i.e. 5 PE or 10 PE.
(PE stands for Person Equivalent and equates to 200 litres of Flow or 60
gm of BOD.) What you don't see is the treatment level that the tank will
produce at that loading or flow. If your discharge consent happened to
be a tight 10 mg/l BOD, 15 mg/l SS and less than 5 mg/l ammonia a
standard 5 PE tank will not be able to treat to this level as it will
undoubtedly be designed for a 20:30 standard effluent discharge.
Please contact us if you are unsure of what tank you require. When
comparing tanks please ensure that you are comparing like for like.
Ask what level of treatment the tank is working too if you can't find
this information in the brochure. |
